What to do in Lushoto
​Lushoto is the blessed land due to its lands scarp-full green and fertile, lightest degrees of biodiversity on the content, plants, superb view points, waterfalls and rich in cultural activities. It is a unique place where the clouds meet the earth- cool and absolutely beautiful. When you think of spending your holiday or honeymoon in Usambaras, several activities can make unforgettable memories in your life long travels.

Well established trails in the Usambara Mountains offer visitors the opportunity to hike through pristine tropical forests and to enjoy spectacular waterfalls and dramatic views.

From the famous Irente you see the village of Mazinde almost 1,000 metres below and the vast Maasai Plains beyond. On the return trip to Lushoto you can visit the irente cheese, jam and juice "factories" and the royal village of Kwembago. Enjoy a picnic lunch, rye bread and cheese at Irente Biodiversity Reserve. A visit to Irente Children's home, Irente school for the blind and the Rainbow school can also be arranged.

Walk through local villages, the forests play a key role in the culture and traditions of the people living in Usambara mountains, there are opportunities to experience and learn about these traditions. This is a half a day tour and includes the visit of local market, pottery group, traditional knife makers, local bar and factory, traditional dance groups, and visit to primary and secondary school.

Mlalo has an alluring famous old German church and missionary station, now hosting a secondary school. The walk from Lushoto to Mlalo and back takes 3 or 4 days with some sections travelling by bus. It's best combined with a visit to Mtae. The walk goes through Magamba forest; Mtumbi Hill (Usambara highest mountain) can be climbed from here. Several good markets are in the area; in Kileti village the main attraction is pottery.

Take 3 to 4 days tour, trek through forests, villages, and farmland, visit and sleep in a local home and experience the traditional life of the Shambaa people. Return to Lushoto by bus, bike, or private transport.

Departing from Soni, walk through Coffee plantations on the way to Sakharani where Usambarawine is processed. Upon your return, take a visit to soni waterfalls and visit the local market offering fresh fruits.

Montessori Sisters of Ubiri This tour takes you for a short walk from Lushoto to the Catholic Mission of the Montessori Sisters in Ubiri. At this beautiful landscaped mission you can taste, learn about and buy locally made cheese, wines and jams. The entire tour takes about 3- 4 Hours.
